Can ds (18m) have TOO MUCH MILK? Hv seems to think so!

I am letting myself be bugged by what my hv has said.
I had ds weighed at clinic the other day and his weight is 'average and steady'(her words).
He is on top of centile for his height so he isn't a bulky lad and I don't think he ever will be. Dh is a big bloke (not fat but tall, and broad shoulders)

Anyway I happened to mention that ds has 3 cups of milk before bed and she said that is 'too much' and to offer water! I don't see the difference.
She then said 'well he must have very wet nappy in the morning' which he does, but surely he would with water!

I know it's been very hot lately but he has always drank lots of milk, even when he was small he would drink 9oz from a few months old.

He drinks one cup of milk in the morning with cereal, water during the day and then 3 cups milk before bed. Help, opinions please!

DS (2.3) drinks a good 10 oz before bed, also has a v. wet nappy in the morning, but I don't care. He's happy and healthy. Can't really see what your hv was getting at. If he eats well in the day and drinks lots of water, why shouldn't he drink lots of milk at bedtime?? I would ignore her.

Thanks, he eats ok in the day. And he is healthy and happy. I suppose she has got under my skin.

I think maybe the point your HV was (badly) trying to make is that if they drink lots of milk they will want to eat less solid food, and at your ds's age he needs a wide range of food groups which milk can't provide.

My DC would live on milk of they could but I try to give them their requisite protein, carbs, veg etc.

calicope, I guessed she was trying to make this point.
Ds eats fairly well during the day, he was having 2 cups of milk in the day too (before I saw hv) and I have cut this out. He can be fussy at eating sometimes, but I try to make sure he tries different things etc.

I hadn't been to see hv since he was 12m, so was interested in his weight etc. Wish I hadn't bothered going lol!
