My eldest daughter (of 3) is now 2kg lighter than her younger sister. She has an extremely limited list of food she'll eat and this does not include most meat, vegetables or fruit. She'll eat fairly plain pasta, baked beans, cheese, margherita pizza and plain roast chicken reliably. She is almost phobic about trying new food. I don't know how to deal with this and its having a negative impact on the range of food the others can eat as we can't bear the idea of cooking different meals for each child. I feel despondant about cooking new things only to have them rejected out of hand. Any ideas?

Don't let her snack.

Don't comment on what anyone in the family is or isn't eating. Much easier said than done I know. Try to appear calm and not bothered about anyone's eating habits.

I agree with chocoluvva, snacks are your enemy!

Introduce a new meal almost as a side dish to something you know will go down well, if other family members enjoy it, do it again a week later as a main meal. I try to always have 1 healthy thing on the table that my fussy dd (10) will eat, even if it's just a bowl of raw carrot, but not enough of it to sate her appetite.
