No interest in Breakfast

My seven month old dd has lost interest in breakfast. She is nicely established on GF routine but for last week or so refuses to eat more than 1-2 spoonfuls. She used to woof down a decent amount of Ready Brek or creamed porridge as well as a 6 oz bottle of milk, but recently struggles to finish her bottle and refuses breakfast altogether. Have tried offering breakfast first with small drink of water but that didn't work. She eats well at lunch and tea-time. Thought she was teething last week but nothing has emerged so don't think that is reason for her lack of interest? Also any advice really welcome about how to get her to take her water or sometimes v. diluted juice from a cup/beaker rather than a bottle. Have tried three different types and she ends up tipping water down her front! So am anxious that she doesn't get dehydrated versus problems associated with having a bottle bad for teeth etc. Someone suggested she may be better taking it from a cup without a lid i.e sipping very slowly?

Can't comment on the lack of interest in breakfast as my DS has a huge appetite but regarding the drinking, I would switch to giving everything in cups so that your child does not get confused with bottles/cups - this is what I did when my son was 8 months - I was giving him some formula as well as breast feeding but when I stopped b/f I gave milk and water drinks in cups.

It took a bit of time to stop the dribbling - & I don't think any cups are totally leak proof. I recommend the basic Tommee Tippee cups.

Good luck.

Melly, my ds didn't really get into b'fast until he was about 1year old so I wouldn't worry too much if your little one is gaining weight and seems happy enough. Does she still have anything overnight that might be spoiling her appetite? I found persisting with a cup more successful than beakers at this age, as he'd suck too strongly, get a huge mouthful and then choke! Heinz do one with a clear plastic insert for the cup that has a hole to drink from which helps to reduce the amount of flow of liquid. ds seemed to get the hang of drinking from a cup quite well from this.
HTH!

The cup I used for ds (after trying many types & failing with most) was the spouts that you get to use with Avent bottles. They come in either white (6 months) - only difference being how flexible they are. They've got a valve in them, so are non-spill - but aren't as impossible for smaller ones to suck from as 'AnyWayUp' cups seem to be. Ds still uses these now - for milk and water - he's 16 months old. Hope this helps.
