What to do about dried out mincemeat?

I have some mincemeat that my Dmum made probably 2/3 years ago, which I want to make mince pies with. It has been stored in an airtight jar & still smells & looks absolutely fine, except that it has dried out a little.

How should I re-moisten it? Am 29 weeks pg & also have family members who can't drink, so would prefer not to use alcohol if possible, but can if it's the only way.

Thanks Smile

Try some butter and orange juice and simmer it on the hob just to freshen it a bit

Unless your relatives have a real religious objection to alcohol, use brandy. The alcohol will all/almost all evaporate during cooking just leaving the flavour.

Or just add some water. That will do it too.

I make alcohol free mincemeat and stir in apple or orange juice to improve the consistency of dry mincemeat. Works fine.

Some finely diced cooking apples and some brandy will do the trick.

Apple or orange juice, chopped apple, ready to eat (not very) dried apricots, glace cherries, dried cranberries soaked over night in Orange juice, massively anything to break up the sweetness.

And it will be fine, we had several year old mince meat pulse extra brandy the other night.

basically
