He does get other food too like spag/bolognaise (not from jar) shepards pie, baked potato, salad (cucumber only the odd bite of tomatoe maybe) boiled pots with veg. He refuses to eat meat, for some reason he tries it then spits it out. So i am in desperate need on what to feed him. He needs better meals than this! What do you feed your little ones?

ds1 is 2.7. Loves dips with carrot/bread, or fill-your-own-tortilla nights!

Dunnyjo · 13/07/2006 17:15

Pesto pasta?
Cheese on beans on burger on toast?

FrannyandZooey · 13/07/2006 17:19

What do you cook for yourself at home? Could he eat the same, or similar, with a bit of adaptation? eg if you were having curry, cook him a little portion without so many spices. Instead of the meat part of your meal, he could have some cheese, beans, lentils or an egg, maybe?

DS didn't like meat till he was 4ish .. now he loves it

MrsBadger · 13/07/2006 17:59

at this age unminced meat seems to be v unpoular - too much chewing effort needed I think. Agree that a version of whatever you're eating is a good plan.

Fishcakes aren't hard to make (cooked flaked fish, mashed potato; or tinned salmon & mashed potato if no time) but are nowhere near as easy as homemade burgers (put mince in bowl, add a finely chopped onion, squidge together, add a beaten egg if it seems too dry OR some breadcrumbs if it seems too wet, squidge into balls, flatten gently into burgers, grill, griddle or bbq).

Pasta ideas are never-ending - bacon bits v useful here.

do they like fish? my daughter loves boiled rice with mackeral fillets, fresh or tinned its a really healthy meal and she loves it and so do her friends when i give it to them, or a fresh made quiche, which is really easy and takes about 20 minutes filled with egg, cheese, milk, and add tomatos, onion ham or whatever you want

Nemo1977 · 13/07/2006 18:12

all suggests are great...ds is 2.9yrs and basically has whatever we eat..how is your ds with sausages? tried mash and sausage but make it into a face with some peas. scrambled/boiled egg or omlette. For a quick tea spaghetti on toast.

Dunnyjo · 13/07/2006 18:20

thanx for replies, some great suggestions!
He wont touch sausages will not try it now but i do make scrambled egg on toast he loves that but every time i find he likes something i tend to over do it a bit and he gets so fed up! but i am going to try quiche with different fillings. (((((whispers how do you make it?)))))

okay
mix plain flour and butter with you fingers into breadcrumbs, add a little water and mix into one lump of dough, roll out flat and use as base.

Grate a load of cheese and place it into the base
Wisk 2/3 eggs (dep on size of quiche) with about 3/4 pint of milk, (again dep on size)
Chop some ham/cherry tomatos/red onion/peppers/sweetcorn anything you fancy really and pour into milk and egg mix and pour whole thing into the base with the chesse, mix together. cook on 190 for about 25-30 minutes
