Jam?

Can anyone advise me.
I really want to make jam with some raspberries tonight.
I've about 400g of raspberries so it will be a small amount of jam.

I've found a few jam jars and I'm just wondering.... do I need the 'wax seals' mentioned in all the recipes I've looked up?

Will a circle of greaseproof paper do?

Or could I butter the greaseproof paper to make it more of a seal?

Or should I just abandon the idea?

Or would it be better to make the jam and put it into a dessert to be consumed over the next few days?

(I haven't made jam before!)

Heat the jars in the oven, pour the jam in while the jars are hot and put the lids on. That will diddly do in my experience.

Thanks Mrs. Morton!
I did just that! :-) Not sure it will be safe to keep for long without the wax seal things but it should keep a week at least in the fridge...
Mmmm next stop... scones! :-)

Got one good sized jar out of the raspberries and filled a small dish and covered with cling film and put in the fridge. Hoping to make a Victoria sponge tomorrow and put that into it! (Have never attempted one of these before either!)

Must say, I am NOT a jam person but oh my god this jam was delish!!!!
Might just get into the habit of doing jam now and again!

Theres so much sugar in jam that things struggle to grow in it. I do the hot jar thing and have unearthed two year old jam from my cupboard which has tasted lovely!! I know that might not be your thing but a week is like a day in dog years. It will be fine.
