Lining cake tins

When lining cake tins / moulds with greaseproof paper, it says to grease it first.
Does it mean the side which goes next to the cake or the side which goes next to the tin?

I grease the tin and the shiny side of the paper goes next to the cake iyswim?
Mind you, made a cake the other day, used no paper or greasing and it popped straight out, good as anything! Grin

I grease the tin, put the greaseproof paper in, then grease the greaseproof paper, just a little bit. Hadn't thought about which side of the paper goes where.

It's never occurred to me to grease the paper maybe that's where I'm going wrong!

Baking parchment is shiny on one side and grease proof paper isn't I think is the difference!
