Christmas dinner - ideas please

I have only ever cooked Christmas dinner once before when my parents were having building work done and we had them to ours, since then we have been at either mine or DH's home on alternate years, this year I have opted to have it at ours as we have two little ones one who is still a baby and it is just easier not to take them away, however it means I am looking at cooking Christmas dinner for two adults a toddler and a baby.
I still want to have a traditional dinner but cooking a whole turkey would be obviously insane-even DS would be unlikely to stomach that many portions of turkey puree in the following weeks!
Has anyone got any ideas for a lovely festive traditional dinner including trimmings that wouldn't a) cost the earth and b) not leave us with humungous piles of leftovers! We will have some family calling over in the pm so still having bits and pieces to nibble at great,EU food mountains of turkey and potatoes not so great!!

Why not do a big chicken, or a turkey crown? Or you could do a baked ham, always well received at Christmas. Do as much prep as you can the day before (potatoes & veg) and no need to go overboard with all the trimmings, there is usually far too much to eat anyway. Buy a few ready made bits and pieces if can afford them.

Go to your local butcher (not a supermarket). Mine does an amazing stuffed turkey crown - you can give him your own stuffing or he has a few to choose from. He will be able to advise you on size for the number of people and on cooking time. Order it at the beginning of Dec, pick up on Xmas eve. What you get is a big ball of turkey with stuffing inside and no bones. Easy to slice on the day and great for sandwiches/cold meat platter afterwards.
If you are inexperienced and don't want waste it may actually be more cost effective to buy M&S (or other) ready prepared trimmings rather than start from scratch. Not to mention yummy.
