I keep reading about it, I've tried searching for it in the archives several times and I can't find it! I have a serious craving and I need to get baking!

Here you go. Cut and pasted from an earlier thread:

INGREDIENTS
9 oz sugar
9 oz butter
12 oz self-rising flour
4 eggs
3 t baking powder
6 Tbsp milk
grated rind from 2 lemons
juice from these lemons separately

METHOD

Preheat oven to 325 degrees/Gas Mark 3/170C/ Mix all the ingredients together in the mixer except for lemon juice. Bake in 9 X 11 (or 13) baking dish. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until knife comes out clean. While the cake is baking, squeeze the juice from the lemons and heat for 20 seconds or so in the microwave. Set at least one tablespoon aside to drizzle into the cake when it comes out of the oven. Take the balance of the warm lemon juice and add icing sugar (confectioners sugar) to consistency you like. As soon as you take the cake from the oven, prick cake with fork and pour over the reserved warm lemon juice. Next, spread the icing over the cake to finish it off.

Heathcliffscathy · 02/06/2007 10:19

what consistency is the mixture meant to be....mine is somewhere like a gooooey dough....more milk????

HELPPPPP!!!!

PeckaRolloverAgain · 02/06/2007 10:22

Have you added the rind? Find that adds moisture

I made it last week and was worried it was too thick, but it wasnt turned out BLOODY GORGEOUS as usual!

I did an orange drizzle too (same as lemon drizzle but with orange in the lemonny bits) and added a handful of choc chips in to the mix so that every now and then you got some melted chocolate in your mouthful YUM

cazzybabs · 02/06/2007 10:24

I've been making this for over 20 years now (or very similar variations on this theme) - can I claim it as mine?!

The lime version is yummy too, decisions decisions...

cazzybabs · 02/06/2007 16:22

Heathcliffscathy · 02/06/2007 18:50

Buggery Buggery - had a disaster..no fault of the recipe more of the oven and the cook!

It was burnt in top, dh whipped it out but didn't check it and when I chopped the top off to ice it it was not cooked in the middle!

Hey ho - will try again tomorrow!

loler · 07/06/2007 22:26

Made this a couple of days ago - really easy and the whole family love it (makes a change!). Gets more moist every day - yum!

I cooked it at 170 but had to cover the top with foil half way through to stop it burning - also had to bake it for about 45 mins.

WI showed I'd gained 100gms :(
Mostly as I have been unable to move for 3 days I guess
And proof that demolishing weeklies ( even if the evening of WI thinking you have the whole week to fix it) doesn't pay.
So a calmer weekend, if eating out I'll stick to sensible choices and limit booze.
I hope to lose over this weekend
Back feels a lot better I think it was a dislocation that's relocated.
So gentle walking will get done...
Now after being al ME ME ME
I'll read other posts Grin
