If you cook a lot of Chinese/Oriental food can you suggest any good books?

I love Chinese food and Thai green curries but they all come from a jar or the takeaway.

I'd love to have a go at making my own stuff from scratch. A friend has been raving about the Gok Wan book so I have reserved it at the library.

I would also quite like to have a go at making spring rolls but they look quite fiddley.

Thanks.

I love cooking Asian food and probably my favourite book is The Complete Asian Cookbook by Charmaine Solomon. I've owned a copy for about 25 years but it's just been updated and reprinted. It covers a lot of the different cuisines and gives you lots of details and really easy to follow recipes. It really is a great place to start

Thanks. I'll add it to my library list.

I also recommend the one 21mealspluscake suggested. I have the updated one, it's really excellent.

Fuchsia Dunlop - Every Grain of Rice (Chinese)
Rick Stein's Far Eastern Odyssey

Spring rolls are easy if you have somewhere to buy the wrappers (they freeze really well btw).

Kenneth Lo's nooks , are really good although most are now out of print. Have found them on amazon's marketplace.

Ken Hom has a Simple Thai Cookery and Simple Chinese Cookery. They are very straightforward with photographs of every dish and very tasty. They are quite old now so you can often buy them second hand for a few pence plus a couple of pounds postage from Amazon.

I have used the Thai one loads and just recently bought the Chinese one which is also very good.

I quite like Bill's Everyday Asian (can't remember the surname of the author) and have been cooking more and more noodle based dishes of late as I found out DD will eat almost anything if mixed with noodles!

Ken Hom is the most authentic, Ching He Huang is good too.

Hi there OP,

Yan Kit's Classic Chinese Cookbook is a brilliant book, proper authentic cooking.

Christine's Recipes is also a very good blog.

I have a blog of British-Chinese recipes, not quite as accomplished as Christine's but happy to PM you the link if you like Smile.

I've got about 4 of Ching He Huang's books. I am a proper Chinese food addict and her recipe's are amazingly simple but taste really authentic. Most of the ingredients are store cupboard and I find my local Tesco's actually stocks the more specialist ingredients like rice wine. But she tends to cook with her holy trinity of ingredients ginger, garlic and chilli. Yum! Her Singapore noodles are to die for! Hungry now.

Thanks everyone. I'll check out all these books and the blog. Zhx3, a link would be great. Thanks.
