I know it's possible in theory. But what happens in practice?

Oh silly me. Zombie thread

Did you mean to be so rude, Purpledaisies?
I was quite interested, and so was Bear.

I know it's an old thread but in case anyone is still interested Wink here's my slow cooker porridge recipe (requires timer plug):

Night before put 1 cup porridge oats, pinch of salt, 1 cup water and 1 cup milk in slow cooker. Stir. Set timer to come on at 5am, on the high setting. Ready at 7am. This makes enough for my two children, they love it. No gluey mess, no crusty bits Smile

Are you new magamin?

It's bad form to resurrect a zombie thread and bear hadn't noticed.

I have done it and it's lush. It takes some fiddling to get the quantities right. I make it with half water and milk, then add raisins and cinnamon - my Scottish grandad will be turning in his grave!

I also use a timer so it comes on 4 hrs before I need it to be ready. I pop the leftovers in the fridge and reheat with a bit of milk. Yummy.

Maybe Misty hadn't noticed either when she bumped it.

"It's bad form to resurrect a zombie thread and bear hadn't noticed"
I don't understand why it is bad form. Who says?
Surely it is someone using the search engine correctly, and utilising the answers that were already given, and just adding another question or more information.

(Goes to resurrect as many zombie threads as I can)

I do it every day, it's lovely. Have an oven with a timer though and NB it has to be pinhead oatmeal, not porridge oats - could be why it doesn't work for so many people?
Night before put measured amount of porridge (depends on number of people but 1 person approx 1.5 oz) in pan. Then add 4 times the amount of liquid (I do half water half milk, but you can just do water, it still comes out 'creamy') If you measure the amount of porridge in a small cup by eye, you just do four times that amount of liquid by eye IFYSWIM? Pinch of salt if you like it. Put on lid, pop in oven. Set oven delay timer to cook for about 2 hours cooking on very low (about 80 degrees C) timed to turn off just as you come down to breakfast.
In the morning - sit child down, pour porridge into bowl. Totally instant and - crucially - not too hot. IfI make it at breakfast time it is boiling hot, so then it takes ages to cool/they moan it's too hot.
Can you tell I am not the type that gets out of bed a second before I have to....
