can I use plain flour when the recipe asks for '00' flour?

I have always used 00 flour for my pizza dough but as I now have less money (and storage space) I was wondering whether anyone knew if I could simplify the recipe and use plain flour instead.

If I could would there be any difference in the dough?

I'm going to say no but can't explain why! I think the gluten content is different?

I use plain in my pizza dough that I make in the bread maker. Strong bread flour, plain.

We use strong flour for our pizza dough. Isn't 00 just finer ground?

We use plain flour in our pizza base and you can't tell.

I don't think it'll taste as nice. Waitrose have strong bread flour on offer - why not stock up when offers are on?

Sorry just realised no storage doh!
