Can I put a pork joint in the slowcooker?

I've got a joint of pork (boneless, think its shoulder) that needs to be cooked at some poi t this week but I've no time to do it.

I was thinking I could cut off most of the skin/rind - whatever you call it - and put it to one side to make crackling with then put the joint itself in the slowcooker for 6-8 hours on low while I'm out of the house so it'll be ready at tea time.

Would that work? Do I need to do anything with it and so I need to add anything else to the pot such as water or a stock cube?

Yes, I do joints in the slow cooker, if they are big I'd cut them into 2 first. Stuff carrots and other veg in with, herbs, salt and pepper (a stock cube if you want but not very much liquid as liquid will come out of the veg. In my slow cooker, it would be about 10 hr on low setting.

Pork works nicely if you add a peeled and quartered apple, and use dry cider as your liquid.

I came back to say add some apple but I've been beaten to it. A bit of cider also good!

You are culinary geniuses :o

Put the slowcooker on at 8:30, served it up an hour ago, the whole joint pulled apart with two forks it was so tender. Een the meat-hating 4yo asked for "more of that chicken-pig please".

Chicken pig, that's great! In our house beef was "brown chicken" for a while...
