I don't have hardly any food in the house but what I do seem to have is 4 bags of flour.

When I say I have hardly anything the only things I really have are:

  • lentils
  • olive oil
  • pearl barley
  • seasonings/spices
  • soya milk
  • 2 onions
  • few carrots
  • curry paste
  • flaxseed

and that is literally it...

Flat breads and dhal.

Thanks! Do you have any specific good recipes?

Hi Molly. I normally make flatbreads with flour, salt, yoghurt and olive oil. You can however make them without the yoghurt. I think there is a Hugh Fearnely Wittingstall recipe you could google.

Dhal is basically like a spicy lentil stew in our house. I grate the onion before sweating it and often add any tomatoes that at needing used. I use dry spices but you could use your curry paste. Cook the onions in oil until soft, add paste or spices, cook them out then add lentils and veg stock. Red lentils need a good 40 minutes.

Thanks :) I will do that - Looking forward to dinner now
Just got to use up the rest of the flour without buying too much else this week

the dhal and flatbread suggestion is fab.

also, if you can get hold of some eggs, have pancakes for breakfast every day Grin

(spiced) lentil soup with scones or make a savoury crumble (if you have butter?)

pearl barley risotto with home-made vegetable stock.

soda bread is really easy to make and will help use up the flour.
