Help. Christmas cake tin size.

I so want to get this right and am confused.
I am soaking the fruit from my recipe and don't understand the sizing of the tin.
All it says is line a 23cm 9 inch deep tin.
Does this mean that the 23cm/9 inch is the measurement across the tin
or 23cm/9 inch across tin and a 9 inches deep tin.
If it has to be 9 inches deep its a ruddy big cake.
Please somebody help.
My tin is 9cm deep.
Could this be the right size but a miss print on recipe?

It means a 9" diameter 3" deep tin. (3" is a 'deep' tin as opposed to a sandwich type tin)
