What is corn syrup?

I have a recipe for marshmallows and one of the ingredients is corn syrup. I searched for it on the asda website to add to my shopping but nothing called corn syrup comes up. I do get lots of cough syrup Hmm

Is it called something else over here as the recipe is american?

Thanks

i always use Golden syrup, i'm sure someone told me that it was the same as corn syrup.

They use it a lot in America because they have a glut of corn.

It's basically thick, sugary corn juice.

Highly recommend you use something else.

It's high in fructose, industrially processed, flavour free sweetener. I'm not convinced it's safe....and while the debate rattles on I won't use it in baking or consume products which contain it.

I'd use golden syrup or make your own syrup with water and sugar.

You can use Karo syrup available in some tescos.

However Corn syrup has been linked with obesity. It is a hidden sugar.

Amazon sell it, I bought it to make Korean chilli sauce.

Could you use agave syrup instead?

I wouldn't agave syrup is high in fructose too. I've made marshmallows using this recipe from HFW, they were delicious and no need for corn syrup!

Will probably teach me to spend so much time on Pinterest. Loads of things I have seen that I would like to make have corn syrup in. Even caramel shortbread that I have made before without any type of syrup.

I think I will use that recipe instead Snowlike. Thanks Smile
