if we ever have any left over (rare - dh is a baguette monster) the following morning I wrap it in foil, fling in oven for 10min and eat slathered in butter and jam for breakfast.

Otherwise they make pretty good breadrumbs once stale.

mini pizzas? spread with tomato sauce / a little tomato puree then either just grated cheese or whatever & put in oven until cheese melted. Makes lovely crunchy pizza.

LiliLaTigresse · 05/07/2006 13:04

or use in gaspacho (more seasonal )
I too love it toasted for breakfast

spidermama · 05/07/2006 13:09

Homemade garlic bread? Crush some garlic into some butter with some dried parsley & mix in. Slice baguette not all way through & put blobs of garlic butter in, wrap in foil & bake for about 5-8 mins?

Thomcat · 05/07/2006 13:18

send it to bluehorizons over on the embarressing health topic.

popmum · 05/07/2006 13:20

butter, chop into little pieces, pop in oven for a while. Hey presto, croutons for soup. Freeze until needed!

LiliLaTigresse · 05/07/2006 13:23

I put a couple of cans of tomatoes, some garlic cloves, a red pepper, olive oil, sherry vinegar, some water, salt and pepper, and some old bread (not mouldy, just hard!!) in a bowl, in the fridge for a couple of hours, then in the blender until smooth (or smoothish), back in the fridge, I take it out about 15 mn before eating. Can then add a few dices of cucumber and tomato on top (and check the seasoning)

Just leave it and let it go stale. I do this all the time. Then i use it for breadcrumbs for home made burgers, in soups, chicken nuggets, for a crust on the top of pasta bakes, etc...........

bluehorizons · 05/07/2006 14:08

ive been told i can use a french stick for my little problem so could you send it to me please?

bundle · 05/07/2006 14:08

breadcrumbs, which freeze well too.
eggy bread, with or without maple syrup

alison222 · 05/07/2006 14:18

sprinkle with water the next day and put in oven for 10 mins to refresh it - then eat as if fresh

Iklboo · 05/07/2006 14:19

Can't think of Gazpacho without thinking of Red Dwarf though
