I've bought roasting bags, what do I put in them?

I've bought some of these bags and I know I can put a joint of meat or a chicken in, but will it still go crispy on top?

What else can I do with them?

I am fairly new to the roasting bags, too, but so far I have done a whole chicken in one and the chicken was amazingly moist and yummy! I did peal the bag back to crisp up the top just for the last 10 minutes of cooking.
Another thing I have done is put in chopped veg and chunks of chicken with a BBQ sauce, which went down very well in this house!

I will hang around for more ideas, too. Wink

Well the ones I've got didn't look big enough for a chicken, but due to the fridge door being ajar overnight I've cooked everything in the fridge! I put a little curry paste in with the chicken things and mustard and apricot jam with the ham!

The ham with grainy mustard and apricot jam is fantastic, and the curry paste worked well too. Would definitely recommend them.

I love them.. Yep they brown meat.

I cook salmon fillets in them with ginger and soy and five spice.. You can cook peppers stck with them

Also pork chops with Cajun

No other ideas so I will steal the others here!! :)

I think pork chops sounds good, always so hard to stop them drying out!

I tried a chicken in them but I struggled with spilling the juices everywhere trying to check if it was cooked. My bags also said to make slits if the top - does everyone bother with this?

PositiveAttitude · 30/10/2013 06:44

I don't slit the bag, but I do watch it. I have seen that the bag becomes all blown out and have wondered whether it would explode, but when it gets big I take it out for about 1 minute and it goes back down and to a normal size, then pop it back in to finish off. Maybe if you are doing a roast chicken for a long time a small hole would be a good move to allow a bit of the steam out.

never used a roasting bag but i follow the same principle using tin foil.

chop chicken into strips or chunks, chop sweet potato, peppers, red onion and anything else you like to roast. mix smoked paprika with butter or a little olive oil and add to the bag. cook for about 20-30 mins until chicken is done and sweet potato is soft.

goes nice with corn on the cob or inside wraps/ pitta breads.

That sounds fab, cucumber.

I didn't make holes in the bags, but didn't tie the ties too tight so steam was able to escape.
