Halloween jelly - the sweets go horrible - help!

Hi all, DD is having a Halloween theme birthday party next week. I've been trying to make jelly with gum sweets in them so it looks like there's a worm or set of teeth inside the jelly. So far I have tried gum "worms/snakes" - really long shoelace ones and shorter ones and the teeth sweets which are a bit like foam. The shoelace worms lose all their colour and go tasteless, the thicker gum worms go hard in places and the teeth sweets taste pretty awful once they've been in the jelly. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would it help to coat the sweets in something like gelatine or glycerin before putting them in the jelly?

Are you making sure the jelly has cooled down before adding the sweets?
It could be that the hot/warm is dissolving the colours, if not i tried some eyeball sweets from poundland last year & they stayed pretty much the same colour
