Mary Berry Christmas cake - is my tin too shallow?

I'm attempting to make a Christmas cake for the first time and am using Mary Berry's recipe. Having soaked the fruit there looks like quite a lot and I'm wondering if my tin is deep enough. Tin is 9 1/2 inches diameter and about 2 1/2 deep. Does anyone know? I don't want to waste any!

Also can someone please tell me how much this cake rises?

Thank you! Smile

Sounds ok. I think mine was the same. It doesn't rise much.

A christmas cake tin needs to be 8cm/3". Some will rise above hence line with qood quality baking parchment to give it some support and plenty of brown paper on the outside.

Thank you both, it's a bit less than 3 inches so should I buy a new tin or just make sure my lining paper is good?

I would def buy another as it will be used again if 20cm. The cooking of the cake will improve. the paper will not be strong enough for 1 inch above. Just on some cakes the rise is just above the tin and with paper half inch above will keep the edges sharp.

Thanks again - off to buy a new tin and also a bigger mixing bowl!
