Help! Next week my boys are being christened and I've got a small gathering at mine after to celebrate... There will be about 20 people - lots of them kids (all over 4) and I've got terrible morning sickness ... It's thinking about preparing and cooking food that I find really difficult at the moment... Shame as normally I love planning and hosting... So any ideas what I can do? Budget can't stretch to waitrose food to order am afraid...

Morrisons do sandwich platters and other party plates if you ask at the deli, I think Smile

Or keep it very simple, packs of ham, continental meats, cheeses, grapes, crisps and ready made cold pies and sausages from your local supermarket, seved with French bread and good butter.
Get a couple of the guests to put it all onto platters when you get back from the church, while you organise drinks and keep away from the food
Plus, apart from the bread, it can all be bought earlier in the week, preferably using the home delivery so you don't have to go into the supermarket.
Whatever you decide, congratulation on the new baby-to-be

"fish and chips or a drive through?

If she can't afford Waitrose she won't be able to afford this either.

Is there really no-one at all who can help - family, close friends, partner? Is there a local bakery that can make up a load of sandwiches? Can you stretch to some M & S sandwich platters?
If not can you get your partner to shop at the local supermarket and get some: baguettes, selection of cheeses and sliced meats, bagged salads, tomatoes, quiches, sausage rolls, crisps, soft drinks etc. Get paper plates and cups as well so no washing up.

Good luck. I hope it goes well.

I would go with jgb's suggestion - meats, cheeses, French bread etc. go to lidls or aldi for the meats & cheese.... Top up with bowls of cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, chutney, coleslaw. And get others to help. Your closest friends/family will be at the ceremony no doubt, but will understand about morning sickness it really won't take long for them to put it out when you get back. Where are you? If local to me (clue in the name) I'd happily help

Lots of baguettes and 10 cartons of fresh soup in 2/3 flavours.

For ds's it ended up that my mum made a load of sandwiches and bought some quiches and salad, my mil baked and my aunt iced The Cake, my gran made a lemon drizzle for those that don't like fruit cake... And they all acted like it was an honour to help! Don't underestimate the power of delegation :o
