Not technically food but...

I have given my 2 1/2 year old a tropical fruit version and he has been sky-high ever since...!! Has anyone else found this?

The reaction was almost immediate and he was flying around the shops singing at the top of his voice (Teletubbies theme, bad Mummy lets him watch too much cbeebies ).

He has also been up since 6.30am and would usually sleep at about 11.00am for a couple of hours. Instead, he is crashing around his room, yelling...

Has anyone else had similar or is this just a bad day???!!!

sorry no i havent noticed

SherlockLGJ · 30/06/2006 12:21

They are poison, they do this to every child I know, DS is not allowed them.

waterfalls · 30/06/2006 12:22

Disgusting things, ang my god they are so strong, its like drinking undiluted squash.

jampots · 30/06/2006 12:23

oops

Raggydoll · 30/06/2006 12:24

you are correct to link the behaviour to the drink... fruit shoots are frequently mentioned on mn along with sausage rolls, blue smarties, turkey twizzlers and various other items that are deemed 'industrial slurry'

pmsl

BettySpaghetti · 30/06/2006 12:25

DD had one once (please notice I said once cos shes never having one again) at a birthday party in a soft play place -she was bouncing off the walls for the rest of the day!

Greensleeves · 30/06/2006 12:25

Yes. It's because they are full of toxic chemicals.

prettybird · 30/06/2006 12:27

Don't seem to have any effect on ds.

But then, he seems to be able to eat/drink anyting (Smarties, vile orange concoctions, etc) without any ill effect.

JonesTheSteam · 30/06/2006 12:29

They don't affect my children's behaviour at all, but TBH I think that's unusual from what most people say on here!!!!

FlameBoo · 30/06/2006 12:35

Mine too - it is quite funny to watch how many times she can run in a circle

Any adults tried them? They have the same effect on me - I go very fast for an hour or so, then suddenly slump and have no energy at all (tried it out on a day needing to do lots).

GeorginaA · 30/06/2006 12:38

Effected ds1 VERY badly (to the point you could predict the meltdown in behaviour to the minute after drinking one). As he's got older, the occasional fruit shoot doesn't seem to have that much effect on him anymore. Ds2 has no-where near the same reaction to him as his older brother did at the same age. Still limit them to very special occasions though

GeorginaA · 30/06/2006 12:38

LOL at FlameBoo for using it for a pep up - must try that experiment one day...

Fluffybubble · 30/06/2006 12:39

Thank you!!

He is literally bouncing off walls as we speak, have resorted to Piraton and Calpol...hope they don't react too!

Won't be giving him one of those again .

FlameBoo · 30/06/2006 12:40

Piriton has the same effect on me It gives me weird heart palpitation too though, so have to stick to fruit shoots for my buzz

beckybrastraps · 30/06/2006 12:42

Actually, undiluted apple juice does this to ds. I always thought it was the sugar rush.

Like the idea of using drugs to counteract the "noxious chemicals" though.

zippitippitoes · 30/06/2006 12:42

Yes..I once started a thread on the subject

jampots · 30/06/2006 12:42

my children arent highly charged kids at the best of times compared to others certainly. Wonder if that has an effect?

Prettybird, fruit shoots et al also have no effect on my nearly 4yo DD.

jamsambam · 30/06/2006 12:44

i cant give them to my ds's. only ds2 has adhd but they send them both potty...especially the balck current one

jampots · 30/06/2006 12:44

does anyone use Tesco/Sainsbury's High Juice?

NomDePlume · 30/06/2006 12:46

jampots, I doubt it, tbh. My DD and DS1 are both balls of energy but DD isn't affected and DS1 is, although DS1's reactions are to coke and not fruit shoot as he doesn't like them. I don't buy any fizzy drinks anymore.

waterfalls · 30/06/2006 12:48

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I might arrange a night out for myself, leave dh with the kids, and feed them turkey sausage and turkey twizzlers, for tea with blue smarties for pudding, and a fruit shoot on the side. lol

waterfalls · 30/06/2006 12:49

That should be sausage rolls, not turkey sausage
