I got one in my veg box today. I thought they were decorative!

Is is a cauli? Does it taste like one? Do you make the same things with it?

Inspire me!

It's a brolliflower!

Broccoli and cauliflower crossed. Cooks like cauliflower.

RippingYarns · 04/10/2013 13:52

do you mean a romanesco?

steam very gently, and serve with cheese sauce?

break into small florets and stir fry with chilli and anchovies?

looking forwards to getting one soon

MrsPnut · 04/10/2013 13:53

I love getting romanesco in my veg box, I use it like a cauliflower so make a cheese sauce or in curry usually.

Fillybuster · 04/10/2013 13:56

Probably a romanesco...if it looks fractal then that's the one. I chop it up, steam it then serve with a vinagrette, capers, anchovies (optional) and some shallot....mmm....

Blush Someone in a greengrocer's told me they were called 'brolliflowers'!

Is it romanesco? It's lovely stuff. Good in curry or nice lightly steamed.

They always look like they've been designed by aliens

nicename · 05/10/2013 19:19

I've been gazing at all the bumps - mad whorls. Designed by someone on aceeeeed I think!

Isn't nature weird? I still haven't used it. Its too pretty.

Break into florets and roast with olive oil and quartered lemon, squeeze some of the lemon juice over for serving. Blooming lovely.

misshoohaa · 06/10/2013 08:47

Second Stella. Roasting it with garlic and rapeseed oil = deliciousness

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 06/10/2013 08:49

Most beautiful vegetable ever! I also struggle to use it - it's just too pretty!

nicename · 06/10/2013 09:46

I remember when weird cabbagey things started to be trendy in bouquets. I'd be happy for a bunch of these in a (very large) vase.

So tastewise/texturewise - is it more cauli or broccoli?

I just got this link from my veggiebox people:

www.riverford.co.uk/wash/recipes/view/recipe/roasted-romanesco-with-almonds-and-pista

It looks rather yummy.
