Come forth all you alcohol making/flavouring folk

I would like to make some flavoured spirits. Every recipe I look at says I need to leave the fruit and alcohol in a jar and jiggle every day for 2 weeks before decanting..

What would happen if I just bunged a load of blackberries into a sterilised flip top bottle and covered with spirits. Would it go horribly wrong? Do I really have to faff with jars and jiggling first?

I've made blackberry brandy in the past by minimal effort. I kept the jar on the kitchen counter and jiggled it when I remembered.
The only bad result I've had is when I just left the fruits in one batch instead of straining them out. It just tasted a bit less bright.

Still managed to chug it down though Grin

What you'd probably get, OP, is a bottle with some fruit at the bottom and vodka at the top. The jiggling and sugar is what mixes it all up and helps to create the flavour.

Can't see how 30 seconds of jiggling once a day is somehow onerous or a 'faff', myself.

I'm making spiced arancello for Christmas. I quite like the jiggling!

By faff I meant the going from jar, jiggling and then having to strain and decant into bottles. It's not really the end of the world, I'll put the kids on jiggling duty!

I only asked because the 'dishwasher vodka' thread of years time by, people are just sticking sweets in the bottles of vodka and it's working for them.

I don't jiggle my blackberry vodka as it can make the resulting drink 'woody'. Other fruits need a bit more care.

For blackberry vodka I use 300g of blackberries, 100g of sugar to a bottle of vodka. Put in a jar and stir everyday until the sugar has dissolved, then pop in a dark place for 2-3 months. When ready strain the liquid through a muslin, do not push it through just let it drip.

Works for me hic Grin
