First of all, I am not the best cook in the world but can follow a recipe Wink

Have some lovely friends I uses to work with coming for dinner and last time we went to theirs they did homemade everything, all very fancy and impressive and I want to do the same! Four courses too!

I asked DH what I should make? He said... Beef stew?!! I'm guessing not though right? Wink

Marking my place as we have friends coming for dinner next Sat and she is such a good cook. I'm a good family cook with a few dinner party recipes but I've cooked them all for this couple.

I usually do 3 courses then coffee with cheese, chocolates, etc.

Don't put yourself through stress though. I often make 2 courses and assemble one so make the main and one of starter or dessert

Assembled starters could be a selection of nice breads, olives, cold meats, pates, etc. Lots of stuff to pick at and nibble, often helps to relax everybody and get people chatting too. Homemade could be a soup, terrine or pate.

Delia does some lovely recipes that cook in one dish like spanish chicken, moroccan chicken, etc which are great if you are quite new to catering for others as you aren't faffing around with timings. Look great in a big oven to tableware dish, served with a nice green salad. Google her Salmon Coulibiac, that is amazing. I often arrange sliced tomatoes and cucumber on a large plate, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with chopped herbs, looks more impressive than plain salad.

Dessert, whatever I do I always put out a fresh fruit salad or berries with it. Could be cheesecake or similar. Chocolate and pear tart is a nice warm one. You can also make a melted hot chocolate sauce and serve it with fruit and biscuits like a fondue.

I buy a few cheeses and some nice chocolates and sweets to go with coffee and liqueurs.

I love dinner parties!

Coq au vin is easy and usually liked by everyone. And can be done in advance. Can serve with roast//jacket potatoes and green veg.

I also like self help starters whilst everyone is having a drink. Jamie has a recipe for Moroccan flatbreads that are delicious served with hummus.
