I am the proud owner of a new slow cooker - so far have made a beef stew and a bolognaise in it, both of which came out really well but I cooked them both while I was at home, and on the quickest setting. I am at work tomorrow and planning on doing a chicken casserole - I will be leaving home at 8.30 and will be back no later than 5.30...is this too long to leave it on the lowest setting or is this going to be ok? It seems ages - I can't get my head round leaving the dinner on and going out all day!?!?

It'll be fine, I'm sure; I leave my slow-cooker on all day from half-seven in the morning when I leave for work until half-five or six when we eat all the time SmileSmileSmile

btw, chicken thigh works better than breast meat in a slow-cooker, just FYI...

Yeah chicken thighs and wings, the cheapest bits of the bird work best.

I also like getting big lumps of casserole meat and doing that, comes out beautiful if left all day.

I have a bag of cut and frozen root veg in the freezer along with some of those 'bags' of meat stock in the cupboard and I can literally whack it in, go out for the day, come back and make mash potato and its a good hearty (cheap) meal.

Fab, thank you for your replies, I have got thigh pieces and can't wait to come home tomorrow night to have tea cooked!
