she must be having chips for tea, my mum used to cook everything in lard, and they tasted much better too

niceglasses · 22/06/2006 18:31

Yeah, I remember there was a jug of old lard kept to re-use for a few weeks, and then chucked out for new stuff. Lush.

why ?

I bet she was deep frying. chips tatse much nicer done in lard, but everyone is too much of a wuss these days.

Mercy · 22/06/2006 18:47

Agree with you Senora, chips are loads better cooked in lard!

Years ago I went to a Japanese supermarket and was peering into a woman's basket to see what a 'typical' Japanese person would buy. It contained white bread, butter, eggs, baked beans etc. I was really surprised but taken aback by my own assumptions at the same time!

bundle · 22/06/2006 18:48

I hope you told her that the wholemeal version is much healthier

Try TESCO 'Finest' frozen Chunky Chips......

They are the Biz

Hide them from the kids though...Strictly adults only.

southeastastra · 22/06/2006 19:04

i wouldn't advocate the use of lard really, my mum had a heart attack in her 60s

sugarfree · 22/06/2006 19:21

You are all missing the point.
She was and old lady. With lard.
Therefore us 'bad' eaters are going to outliving you 'good' eaters and still be able to carry our heavy lard around without assistance.
So ner!

I always do my yorkshire puddings in lard.

Maybe she was superfit and planning to swim the channel?

sugarfree · 22/06/2006 19:30

Yes,you don't swim the channel on a glass of water and a mug bean, smeared in olive oil do you?

Mmmmmm, lard fried chips in a Yorkshire pudding 'bowl'.

sugarfree · 22/06/2006 19:30
