To kitchen aid or not? Pros/cons and alternatives?

I would certainly recommend getting a stand mixer - I got a Kenwood Prospero as space is limited in my kitchen and it has revolutionised my baking. No more standing around for hours with the electric mixer beating butter and sugar!

I currently have a k-mix which is good and gets the job done but is heavy and takes a long time to get things done!

Horrible use of English in that last comment.

I have one. It's great. But one thing that annoys me is it tends to spread flour/sugar everywhere.

Definitely get a stand mixer of some sort if you don't have one. I have a Kitchen Aid. I love it, but I haven't ever tried a different brand. I chose one because I think a lot of professional kitchens use the pro version, plus they come in pretty colours!

I use my KitchenAid a lot, as do my daughters who also like cooking. I bought it rather than a Kenwood as it looks less chunky. Mine is blue.

A kitchenaid is very heavy too. I'm sure you would be able to find a weight comparison online. In fact, I'm sure I found a comparison document between the k-mix and the kitchenaid and there was very little in it - just down to personal preference and budget.

I got a bosch mum461 yesterday. It came 3rd or 4th in which above all the kitchaids and all but one of the kenwood chefs. Even better is that it is only £79 at present and has a splatter guard. I made a fatless sponge and it came out beautifully light.

I got a Kenwood Chef, mainly because it can do more with attachments and I don't have the kitchen space for separate blenders etc. It's absolutely great, and a little smaller than a Kitchen Aid.

I think I've asked this before but I find it hard to justify the money for a kitchen aid when other mixers are available. I've been looking at the Andrew James version which has had great reviews and is a fraction of the price. Any thoughts?
