Constipating Foods and Drinks - HELP!!!!!

DD is 2 yrs old. She poops almost every day, but lately she has been terribly constipated and has a lot of trouble going - crying for about 1 hour and clearly pushing really hard. It is killing me to see her go through this. I have tried to avoid all constipating foods, but think I must be doing something wrong. Can someone send me a link or list with foods to avoid because they are constipating. I know that bananas cause constipation, and I know that prunes and juice and liquids are good to help with constipation, but aren't there other foods/drinks that cause constipation. I'm afraid that I'm giving DD the wrong foods/drinks. Thanks in advance.

My dd1 was 4 we she went through a terrible phase of constipation.
We didn't pick it up at first as we were on holiday. She started soiling herself and we thought she was being lazy, so weren't very understanding parents I'm afraid to say.Eventually she didn't want to try and became very upset. It became psychological. HV was really helpful and peadiatric nurse said 90% of her work was 'botty problems'.
Eventually, it was resolved using lactulose and senna.

If ever there are signs of it happening again I do the following.

*Ban white and processed bread - wholemeal or oatbran only.
*Ban eggs
*Extra helpings of fresh fruit and veg including raspberries & dried apricots (which are yummy)
*Porrige oats for breakfast (easier in winter than summer!)
*Make flapjacks using Jordans Porrige Oats (recipe in side of packet. Nice thing to do with mummy )
*Warm baths help too.
As well as sitting with her and being understanding. "mummy has to push really hard too"........ etc.

FUNNY STORY
I was crouched in front of dd1 who was on the toilet, and frighted to push hard incase it hurt. I was about 5 months pregnant, and telling her that sometimes I had to push hard, because poos can be naughty etc etc, like you do
Her expression changed to concern and worry, " but mummy" she said " you must not push too hard in case you push the baby out down the toilet".

Hope you can get some useful info from my waffle.

The best things to avoid constipation are to make sure that she is eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and drinking plenty of water. And getting enough exercise.

Does she drink a lot of fluids, 2babies? That's the problem we find with DD, she just doesn't drink very much. Her wee is often a dark colour, & she's going dry overnight (2y+5months old) already, partly because she drinks so little.

Also avoid white rice or rice pudding

Try wholemeal pasta or rice instead

LOL - Tillymint. Thanks everyone for the advice. DD does drink quite a lot of fluids as well as nearly 20 ounces of milk every day. I have been giving her rice pilaf lately, as she seems to like it. Could that be the problem? We've also been giving her lots of fruit - she recently has had clementines - is citrus causing it?

In my experience I wouldnt have thought that citrus was the problem......quite the opposite in fact!!

Milk can sometimes cause some constipation but I wouldnt stop giving her milk.

A friend of mine was looking for something for her ds's constipation in a chemist and a lady heard her talking to her friend about the problem. The lady had worked as a nanny (old style ) for years and recommended that instead of spending a lot of money on lactulose that she dissolve muscavado sugar in a small amount of water. I cant remember the exact quantities but if you are interested then I can find out. My friend tried it and app it was amazing!!!!! Cleared his bowels in no time!!

2babies as well as giving her milk how much does she take in juice or warter because milk alone can cause constipation if drunk all the time and only as in has no other drink plus small amounts of banana being high in fiber will actuly help constipation
