Can't you just get some "no-egg"?

Sorry if that is no help!

cadbury · 19/06/2006 14:50

I have one but I have to go and do the school run
I'll type it out when I get back if noone beats me to it

I think you can substitute fresh-groun linseed and water for an egg, in any cake recipe. I keep meaning to try this one out.

PanicPants · 19/06/2006 14:56

Ooh thanks cadbury!

Never heard of 'no egg'! What is it?

It is an eggless substitue for egg -

great stuff but can't beleive how many people with egg allergies etc don't know of it!

SecurMummy · 19/06/2006 14:59

I think it is one spoonful for one egg

NotQuiteCockney · 19/06/2006 15:00

Oh, here's the linseed method:

Finely grind 1 tablespoon whole flaxseeds in a dry electric blender or seed mill, or use 2 1/2 tablespoons pre-ground flaxseeds. (Always store ground flaxseeds in the freezer because they are highly perishable.) Transfer to a bowl and beat in 3 tablespoons of water using a wire whisk. This mixture is not only an excellent replacement for eggs, it also contributes vital omega-3 fatty acids.

Alternatively, \link{http://www.allrecipes.com\This} site lets you search by ingredients, including things you don't want in a recipe.

Thankyou securmummy, and nqc, what a great site! I did a search for cake recipes without an egg and the first one listed was for whiskey cake :o

I should have mentioned, it's a pretty scary site, there are some alarming recipes there. But you can see ratings, and read reviews, of them all, so things are double-checked. Effectively.

am off to search my archives for a fab egg free, dairy free one that I used for ds1 and ds2. Uses banana instead of egg and is yummy, will post again soon.

As promised from another thread - sorry can't link, but if you do a search of all messages with egg free in title there are quite a few with recipes. This one works everytime- I used banana as the replacement and it tastes yummy. It's quite a moist cake.

"Boiled Chocolate Cake

1 cup water
1 1/2 cup caster sugar
4 oz dairy free butter/margarine
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 1/2 cups Self Raising flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs*

In replace of eggs you can use equivalent of Orgran NO Egg Natural Egg Replacer/ or one whole pureed banana/ or 1 cup of apple puree.

Place sugar, water, butter, cocoa and baking soda on low heat until melts - then simmer for a few minutes. Let cool. When cool mix in egg replacement and flour. Turn into 7 inch round cake tin (greased or baking paper). Bake at 180 degree celcius for approx 45 mins depending on oven.

This is a lovely cake as it is really moist because of the method of cooking. I cooked this for my ds2's 1st birthday but I had to replace wheat flour with soya flour and it turned out lovely. I iced with green butter icing (dairy-free) and placed lollipops all over (I had seen Martha Stewart do similar). I have cooked this cake with all 3 egg alternatives and it has turned out fine."

easy fruit cake-

One mug dried fruit
One mug milk
One mug light brown sugar
Two mugs SR flour
Pinch mixed spice

Whack it all together and put in a greased 1lb loaf tin, cook for about 50 mins on about 190C. Smells amazingly warm and spicy when it's cooking. It's like a tea loaf so you can slice and butter if you like (but I don't). Sometimes add a mashed banana or two, and get yummy easy banana bread - and no fat really! Yay!
