crumpets - has anyone made them at home?

I've fund this recipe which I can't use until I can make my won starter

Yes and they were v disappointing! One of the few things that I quickly admitted it was more sensible to just buy ready-made. I'm afraid I can't remember what recipe I used it but it may have been from a Rayburn cookbook.

I've tried a HFW like let recipe which went well, though - mor like scotch pancakes.

I need to make my own bread starter - maybe that will make al lthe difference :)

what kind of frying pan did you use?
I have one of those heavy bottomed one

I think I used a heavy-based non-stick frying pan for the pikelets, but I'm actually now wondering whether I made the less successful crumpets on the hot plate of the Rayburn - I think that might have been what did for them!

This was the one that worked, I think, although actually it's a proper drop scone recipe rather than a pikelet one.
