can I add pectin after I've finished my jam?

Made jam the other day with normal sugar as shops were out of jam sugar and fruit needed using. Obviously it's rather runny!

Can I reboil it with the pectin that I now have and re-bottle etc our do I just have to accept runny jam?

Thanks!

What sort of fruit was it?

Asking because it may just be that it wasn't boiled long enough, but I think re-boiling with pectin should be ok

Make sure it does boil again and re-sterilise the soup too though

Soup? Pots obviously

Thanks yarns, it was rhubarb so I think it did need the pectin, think I'll try reboiling etc-wish me luck!

It should be ok, just keep testing it as you go, but it sounds like you know what you're doing anyhow

I'd reboil it with the pectin and repot it. Rhubarb is low in pectin which is why you didn't get a good set. Or you could add another fruit that has a high pectin content to help the set. I added oranges to my rhubarb jam but it's nicer to have the 'sharp' rhubarb taste on its own.

There is a pectin chart here if it's of any help pectin levels
