Think Tiger must be away so thought I'd better get this up, ready and waiting as August is disappearing fast.

I vow to be more productive in September, I have Falling Cloudberries and a River Cafe book Easy, though not enamoured of it so will check out the library for Red or Blue book. Any recommendations from either book please.

The souvlaki recipe from FC is very good.

Dolmades are in progress. I've made the filling, which involved grating a tomato, never done that before!

Just need to roll and cook them tomorrow. We're also planning some courgette pasta from RC easy.

Hello, everyone! I am not taking part properly this month as am away too much. Really looking forward to magazine/blog idea in October though and plan to get fully stuck in for that. Absolutely love foodie magazines and will probably treat myself to Good Food.
I did though have a go at the slow cooked sausage pasta from RC last night and it was a real hit. Really rich and flavoursome, not much prep and easily done on a budget (I just used normal pork sausages). Think it will definitely become part of my regular repertoire! I didn't use the cream as didn't have any in, but it was gorgeous without.

glorious · 12/09/2013 18:58

I've cooked the dolmades for too long, hope they're still edible!

Pantah630 · 12/09/2013 19:12

Glorious sure they'll be fine, did you cook them in some wine? I make koupepia, the Cypriot version, and use tinned toms. I made 120 for my brother for his birthday the other day, he's kept some out to eat now and frozen the rest. [??]

How were they Glorious? I made them once pre children...

glorious · 12/09/2013 20:54

They're really good actually, I'm quite surprised! Just like my mum used to make (she's from Dorset though so not terribly relevant! But comforting Smile ).

Good to know they freeze ok pantah , I don't think I can eat them all. They were cooked in water and lemon juice with oil (Tessa Kiros suggests butter too but I'm not eating it atm). Wine sounds good though.

We had RC easy zucchini and caper spaghetti tonight. It was tasty and reminded me of ratatouille, but not particularly amazing which to be fair was unlikely anyway.

Pantah630 · 13/09/2013 10:52

Glorious, I don't have a daughter but I'm from Dorset Grin Greek Cypriot heritage though they're really lovely in avgolemono too.

Ooh Pantah how did you post that photo? I would love to see more photos of what everyone's making! (When I tried, repeatedly, to post a pic of DH's chocolate krantz cakes from Jerusalem, I was defeated by technology.)

Pantah630 · 13/09/2013 14:33

I only noticed it this week but there are three boxes for adding images that are under where you type your message. I'm on an iPad but not using the mobile site, assume its the same on everyone's screen.

OP posts:
glorious · 13/09/2013 14:41

All the best people are from Dorset pantah (and I seem to remember there are a few more too). Mmm, shame we've finished the avgolemono already.

I'm on the mobile app and can't see the picture so I'll have to get the ipad.

Pantah630 · 13/09/2013 15:20

Just because I can, here are the lemon bars that were such a hit the first month. I think I may do the Good Food mag and the SK blog for October, are we decided on one supermarket or Good Fog mag and one blog of your choice?

glorious there are many amazing people from Dorset, most of us are only famous in our own locale mind :)

Yeah, I can see the boxes but it kept telling me my picture was too big. Trying again with the krantz cakes (they were amazing, must ask him to make them again).
I am just over the border to the west, by the way, but am very fond of Dorset! Happy memories of school trips to Durdle Door...

It worked!

Pantah630 · 13/09/2013 21:34

They look good, will have to have a look at that recipe.

Is it because I'm on an I phone that I can't see these photos?

Pantah630 · 14/09/2013 14:13

Probably cantdo but I don't use the mobile site so not sure.

LovingKent · 14/09/2013 14:56

Great to see you these photos Smile. All looks delicious. cantdo I can see the photos on my phone (using mobile but not app) but no button to post from phone so expect that has to be done from PC.
Will probably be buying Good Food mag for Oct. Had a flick through it earlier- lots I wanted to make. Might join you in making stuff from skint foodie pantah.

Pantah630 · 15/09/2013 11:57

Cardamon and Cinnamon buns proving this morning, I have high hopes for these. DS2 is a Cnnamon bun fanatic so they best hit the mark and save him from hitting the Tesco Express after his paper round on a Saturday morning.

We had gung bao chicken again last night, with added green bits of spring onion a the end and some straight to wok noodles, yummy.

LovingKent that blog looks like it has some good recipes, I'm not lucky enough to have Middle Eastern and Asian stores in walking distance but they're en route to work if I go in a different way :)

Where does one get fresh yeast? I can only find easy yeast in supermarkets and tbh I'm not sure what I'm even looking for as I've never used it.

glorious · 15/09/2013 16:06

pregnant sometimes supermarket bakeries will sell you fresh yeast (not mine though). Or delis/independent bakeries are good. It's a clay coloured block, quite hard to describe.

pantah I was tempted by those buns too.

We've just had sausage and chestnut gnocchi from RC green which was autumnal and very easy. DD (7 mo) loved it too and made a right mess Smile

Pantah630 · 15/09/2013 16:38

I used dried yeast, 2.25tsp from another recipe online with same quantities of the other ingredients, I'm not sure though. They taste a tad doughy and are slightly overcooked. I would try again with fresh yeast if I could get. Paul and Mary wouldn't be impressed and DS's didn't think they were as good as the BBC Good Food recipe DS2 made a few weeks ago :(

Pregnant, Ocado sell fresh yeast in their Swedish shop section.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 16/09/2013 08:08

pregnant - Morrison's used to sell fresh yeast in the fridge section - assuming they still do.

ELR · 16/09/2013 10:46

Hi everyone been terrible this month not cooked anything so far from the books apart from I googled the baked butter beans recipe and did a sort of version of that but to be honest it was more like my own one I do all the time anyway!!
Loving the photos they are fab.
Which book is the cardamom and cinnamon buns from? They sound yummy.

With regards to next month are we doing the magazines available to purchase at the beginning of October which is actually the November issue or the October one which has been available to purchase from 1st sep?

This month I have made Nigel's spag Bol, Jerusalem's broadbeans and meatballs, SK pear and chocolate scones, nigella's heaven and earth mash and the cranberry, white choc and pecan cookies and also the marmalade flapjacks from DL and thomasina's courgette soup. So lots of cooking just not the months books!

Pantah630 · 16/09/2013 16:19

Falling Cloudberries elr

Where I've overcooked them and they've hardened up they are perfect for dunking in tea, too perfect need another one :)
