Hiding veg

So DS is 9 and a fab eater, always has been. DD who is 19 months on the other hand isn't.

While I was feeding her mush she would eat most things. but as we moved onto more solid things she point blank refuses to eat the stuff I put on her plate.

What suggestions have you lovely people have. I don't give sweet puddings very often, but I am terrible at giving healthy snacks between meals so any suggestions on that front would be ace too

Grate carrot, parsnip etc into a bolognese.
Make burgers (turkey/pork/beef whatever) with grated root veg or apple mixed in.
Broccoli pesto.

I put grapes, baby tomatoes, blueberries etc into little pots for DD1 to snack on.
Mini bread sticks
Small sandwiches.
Bits of cheese/mini sausages

Cheese and bread sticks are not a problem!

Vegetables are more of the dodging point. I'll try her with the little pots, but I think she'll just ignore them. Is it best just to persevere and not give in?

My 15mo DS is similar. He will eat fish finger, chicken strips, breadsticks, toast, sandwiches, chips, sausages, wraps... meat and carbs basically but will not touch vegetables or fruit except raisins. I have tried everything and had no success hence why I am still pureeing fruit and soups so I know he is in fact getting some fruit and veg.

sharond101 · 30/08/2013 22:05

I even tried the multi veg muffins linked above but no joy Envy

I make healthy sorbet : frozen banana, other frozen fruit, half an avocado, handful kale or spinach. Kids think it is just a lovely sorbet Wink.

I make courgette muffins sweeted with mashed banana and applesauce, and have a carrot cake recipe which calls for 750 grams of carrot in a normal sized cake.

I purée asparagus with olive oil and cheese with some pasta liquor as a yummy sauce- do the same with broccoli. I hide all sorts of things in my pesto, and make a spinach mornay to dip new potatoes in.

TwoTeaTessie · 31/08/2013 13:09

Well the savoury muffins are in the oven, fingers crossed.

How do you go about making sorbet, the recipes I've seen online require an ice cream machine, I'm not getting that invested in this!

I think I'm going to experiment with pasta sauces, as she has yet to turn down any kind of pasta!

All you need is a blender - no ice cream make needed, and takes only 2 minutes. It is not sorbet, but "sorbet".

TwoTeaTessie · 31/08/2013 18:36

Well the muffins went down like a lead balloon!

Will have to have a go, she likes all things cold it seems, will just have to keep persevering!

How about baby sweet corn?
Mini chopper to hide veg in a chicken sauce/casserole?
Fresh salsa

My two (2 and 4) can be less than keen on veg. They won't touch peppers, carrots etc whole, although love broccoli or cauliflower.

My latest wheeze is to get a big bag of frozen, chopped celery, onion and carrot (sainsburys sells it). reduce with olive oil and add garlic and tomatoes, cook for ages, whizz down. I then freeze this and use as a base for lots of dishes they enjoy- Bolognese, shepherd's pie etc, as well as serving as pasta sauce (with cheese). The present batch also has whizzed peppers and courgettes in and one I even added spinach with no complaints at all.

Magic :)

It's amazing that if it's red they'll eat it! I wonder what that's all about.
Though tonight she's turned down chips, but eaten her peas. There is just no figuring them out!
