Game - pie? Hot pot?

Courtesy of my parents I have some pheasant breasts and left over venison leg. It really needs cooking up today but I have bugger all other ingredients and no money! I could make some pastry and do a pie - or should I boil some potatoes (home grown, get me!) and slice them and layer on top to make a hot pot? Or something else altogether?

Either way, does anyone know how to make the sauce really rich? I have lamb or chicken stock, carrots, onions and some red wine. No smoky bacon though Sad

Thanks in advance!

game casserole - layer meat with veg (carrots, onions, mushrooms) in casserole. sprinkle with herbs and season with salt and pepper.

pour over 1 pint stock and cook in oven @ 180 c / 350 f /gas 4. for 90 mins. thicken with 1 tblsp cornflour blended with a little wine.

serve with game chips - pots sliced thin and fried, then salted.

enjoy Smile

Hmm, have had a quick google & looks like you will need bacon for game pie. But have found a couple of other recipes that you could adapt

Or, alternatively, can you freeze it - either raw or cook then freeze - & do a game pie when you have more ingredients?

Thanks both of you. I decided to go for a variation of the Gamekeeper's pie, as I really wanted to use my dad's home grown new potatoes. I also used lamb stock and a slug of red wine and oh my god, the sauce!!! It's to die for. (Modest!)
