Bramble jelly - using a sterilised old baby muslin for straining?

Just that really - have loads of old (used) Muslins. I want to make bramble jelly (never made before but DC picked loads) but don't have any of the proper equipment. Would it be ok to use an old baby muslin if I boiled it for 10min or so. Or seriously grim!!!!??

I've used them for making paneer. I use them to wash windows.

Never mix them up Wink

:-) thanks very much! Old muslin used, berries strained and blood red goo bumbling away. Smell is making me all nostalgic as my gran used to do this every year!

Who knew the uses for old muslins - sometimes being a hoarder comes in handy!

My granny used to make bramble jelly. I love it.

Yes, go for it. I fill the muslin with bramble jelly and tie the ends over a long wooden spoon. I suspend the spoon between two chairs over a large saucepan and leave it to drip over night.

Easier just to line a colander with the muslin and put over a bowl to drain. Just made first 4 jars of the year. Lots more to come - garden is like a wilderness but have pounds and pounds of bramble to pick!
I am trying to be v frugal, so have even rubbed the remaining pulp through a sieve to desired and have frozen the result. Thinking of apple and blackberry chutney with it, or poss blackberry cheese preserve.

Bloody predictive text - deseed rather than desired...
