What do you snack on?

I am not currently overweight but as I'm getting older and nearer to wrinklyness and slowing down metabolism more mature I'm aware that I'm going to have to eat less crap more healthily.

I like fruit a veg a lot, try to make sure I get my five a day, have a pretty balanced and varied diet etc etc. However, I've recently change to a less physical job and am having major issues staying out of the biscuit tin!

I always have breakfast - usually cereal - but I get so hungry during the day. Ryvita with peanut butter and honey satisfies my hunger and sweet tooth but I'm getting a bit bored of it!

What can I eat that fills me up but isn't really unhealthy? Stuff like Go Ahead bars aren't much better than chocolate once you look at all the sugar, nuts don't fill me up.... I need to stay off the brownies!!

A banana works for me - especially if you don't have access to anything more tempting! My mum eats a banana mashed onto an rice cake and I can kinda see that it looks more like a proper snack but that seems like too much of a effort for me.

Natural yogurt with a bit of honey and some oats/nuts is very filling but I'm not sure how healthy it is.....

I take a tub of chopped up carrot and cucumber to work and rice cakes and corn cakes. I am trying to lose weight and these all fill me up. In fact I struggle to eat enough.

Maybe you need a bigger breakfast - some form of protein and carbs (egg/ham with toast for example?) that might fill you up more.

I won't tell you what I snack on because that won't help you at all reaches for a slice of home-made cake Grin.

If I'm at home and organised I snack on chickpeas or nuts. If I'm in the office I snack on Japanese seaweed rice cakes, or I eat my packed lunch early (10am Blush) and have to go to the canteen for lunch ...

I agree with Ragwort - you need a bigger breakfast with protein and slow acting carbs. Ham egg and brown bread/toast, or porridge and fruit. You need to eat lunch - a ryvita isn't enough which is why you are craving an instant sugar hit. Could you perhaps make your own muffins using fruit and nuts, cheese etc. Make a batch and freeze. Or make a salad using grain, bulghur, quinoa, lentils, sunflower seeds as the base and then add veg, toms, olives, hardboiled egg, banana, raisins. Homemade muesli or granola is nice and won't have loads of added sugar.

I used to snack on wine but I don't anymore Grin Have lost 6 kilos.

Parma ham, boiled eggs, carrot sticks - best not make the snacks taste too tasty or I'd be tempted to eat more than a snack size.
