Picnic food in the garden

Dilidali · 04/08/2013 10:43

I am lucky enough to have a really beautiful garden, I love feeding my friends and their kids and they love coming round for impromptu picnics. But I keep making the same things over and over again.
I enjoy cooking and have all sorts of weird and wonderful ingredients, but I am in a sort of routine, could you share your picnic/garden party recipes/ideas?
Thank you.

What about pies

I do pork & egg pie or chicken and ham pie.
Scotch eggs.
glazed mini sausages
filled wraps instead of sandwiches.

Thank you for your replies :)
jojane what is a pinwheel sarnie?
Cream scones!!!!! I haven't had one in ages!!!!! Thank you for that. And for the wraps ideea :)

wheredidyouputit, silly question, my excuse is that I am veggie: how do you glaze? I fried some tiny sausages, in a pan, should I have added a bit of honey and, don't know, soy sauce?

Sorry - that was a bit abrupt - I got called away.

What about those rice paper rolls, filled with herbs and spring onions and glass noodles that Nigella made in Forever Summer - with some sort of dipping sauce, iirc?

I tend to do

In a bowl add 2 tbsp of honey and 2 tbsp dijon mustard then mix to a paste then roll mini sausages (or normal sausage cut into 3) once cover put onto a baking sheet and cook.

Another idea a sheet of puff pastry roll out into a thin sheet. Spread with tomato paste and grated cheese. Then either roll the long side up and cut into slices about inch thick. Or roll one long side about 3 times and repeat the other side so it looks like a figure 8 on its side again cut in slices bake for 20min gas 4.

Ooh - that reminds me. Marmite pinwheels. Take a sheet of puff pastry, spread with marmite and grated cheese, roll up and slice like a Swiss roll, and bake at about 170 degrees until golden brown and puffed into spirals. Utterly delicious.

Thank you very much for the ideas! I sometimes make the puff pastry with tomato sauce and cheese, but never thought to put marmite, sounds delicious!!

And thank you so much for the glazing recipe where, I'll try it soon:)
