Slow cooker question...

Hi, I am trying to decide whether to buy a slow cooker. I am out of the house for 10hours a day usually. Is that too long to leave things cooking? Want to do things like casserole, chilli, bolognese, curries. Just read a thread which said most recipes are for 6 hours or so. Would my meals be ruined leaving them for 10 hours?

I have a book which has several 10+ hour recipes. Even those which state less time I leave longer with no ill effects.

Nope, they'd be fine, left on low for ten hours Smile

A couple of things though - firstly you could invest in a slowcooker that has an automatic warm function, so you could set it to go to warm after 7-8 hours. Alternitively, you could buy a wall timer that you could set to come on at a specific time.

And if you do get a SC, you need to be in this FB group

As long as there's liquid in the slow cooker and it's on low, it's almost impossible to burn food. Some won't cope with long cooking, like fish or peas, but a lot of it's trial and error. Sometimes I leave mine on overnight, 10 hours or more till I turn it off, and the stuff is fine.

You don't nessicarily need liquid in the DC though - you can do a whole chicken without liquid as it makes plenty of its own.

That would be SC not DC... Blush
