Im bit bored and stuck with kids meals.

have 3 age 2 , 3 and 7.

They eat most fruit and veg so they not totally unhealthy.

just we all a bit bored.

usual meals consist of

chicken curry usually made with jar sauce as they not keen on overly spicy and me and my hubby find too bland.

spag bol made from scratch with lean mince, onion, garlic, passtatta and herbs.

occasional lasagane done that for a while,

homemade pizzas even making base with jaimie oliver recipe but quite messy and time consuming not done in a while but will do in summer as kids love it.

roast dinner usually chicken all the trimmings.

not done many casseroles now weathers hot.

They seem to have gone off pasta or pasta bakes.

they like savoury rice which i make from scratch.

but last 6months fallen into pattern of

nuggets and chips
breaded fish and chips
or sausages and chips
freshshop brought pizzas.

no smiles or turkey twizzkers here but odd birds eye waffle

i do try add some veg like sweetcorn, carrots or peas with it.

they quite fond of ketchup tried making my own ketchup and they hated it,

not so worried about fruits as they eat quite a bit concerned they not getting enough veg.

i dont buy much fruit juice as thats bad teeth

try keep sweets , biscuits to min

they all see to have gone off yogurts,

i tried kidney bean carrot burgers eldest liked but not the younger 2.

Tried soups and omlettes.
jacket potatoes,
mini muffin pizzas

none of them keen on salad.

I try to ration crisps.

So what can I make thats cheap, quick easy that appeals to kids ?

My kids love grilled salmon, with potatoes (fish, butter, herbs, lemon, tomatoes - in a foil, and into the oven) + I add steamed veg like carrots and green beans in the end.

Also shepherd's pie - not quick, but you can freeze it, so may be worth the effort. (It is worth it in our house because kids love it so much).

Ham salad - boiled eggs, ham, peas, green beans, potatoes.

Thanks for a great thread. Just realized that we've not done jacket potatoes for a long time!

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 01/08/2013 22:24

I did omelettes the other night and everybody ate them.

mam29 · 01/08/2013 23:42

Thanks guys,

Glenshee no probs i think in term Time felt so time poor i become lazy and standards have slipped.

I need to get them exited again.

You reminded me I used to do frozen cod in olive oil foil, basil, passatta and cheese and they used to love that.

I hate gibing them to much processed stuff no matter how much they love it.

Nothing like jacket slow cooked in oven I tend to do microwave.

Ocasionally i do cauli cheese with frozen cauli which they like.

Going to try savoury pancakes tommorow with ham and cheese and rolled up like wraps as have eggs to use up.

Im hopeless at omlettes end up more scrambled do a ok frittta as thats oven baked with potatoes.

Have done shepereds pie in past including italian twist of basically spag bol topped with mash and cheese served with value garlic bread.

I think might try some rceipes for savoury bread as they love bread.

I do a mild curry for the family and dh and I sprinkle ours with a habanero powder.

piebald · 02/08/2013 07:53

Cook a chicken and make salad and salsa and other bits and pieces -on the table with wraps and everyone help themselves
Spaghetti with little meatballs in tom sauce
Big meatballs with cheese in the middle and a tomato sauce which you can hide lots of veg in
My lot werent great at veg but love corn if its on the cob and cauli cheese (with sausages) and if i cooked chicken with a creamy sauce would always eat frozen spinach. Brocoli they would eat and now all hate as we had it with everything. When you do roast, roast carrots are often more acceptable to them
Mine hated homemade ketchup too!

piebald · 02/08/2013 07:55

Meatloaf

aturtlenamedmack · 02/08/2013 08:00

You could sneak a bit of extra veg into the things you already make, like the curry, lasagne and pasta sauce.
I grate stuff like carrot or corgette into mime.
My ds also likes mousakka and I do a midley spiced stew with cous cous that I stick some dried fruit in which they love.
My slow cooker has been my saviour as it's very little effort!

SarahJinx · 02/08/2013 08:05

My two year old loves wraps, I put all sorts in and slice the, up. For orders, a plateful of shredded chicken, wraps, sweet peppers and onions, fresh guacamole and cheesy nachos is fun?

Cottage pie is always a banker in this house too.

coffeewineandchocolate · 02/08/2013 08:08

chilli and rice
fajitas (mild)
stir fry
lamb tagine
homemade fish and chips
loaded potato skins
homemade soup and sandwiches
chicken and leek pie etc

FromageFrog · 02/08/2013 08:11

I do a chilli con carne one night and use the leftover to make enchiladads the next day, that always goes down well and is very quick to make.

Toowittoowoo · 02/08/2013 14:10

Here are two that I use regular if it is only DD eating:-

crumbsfeedyourfamily.blogspot.co.uk/2010/12/broccoli-pasta.html
or
crumbsfeedyourfamily.blogspot.co.uk/2010/09/lifesaver-no-2.html

I normally add more veg to the stir-fry though. Those frozen peppers that you can buy in Sainsbury's make it very easy to bung a load more veg in without any chopping!

Sorry - I am probably giving you the most lazy meals but they work for me! The same blog has a few other ideas but I make those two the most.

moomoo1967 · 02/08/2013 14:13

What I tend to do with jacket spuds, is 10 minutes in the microwave then finish in the oven so that the skins go crispy(dependent on how big the spud is)

InTheRedCorner · 06/08/2013 21:40

moomoo is it wrong that I've spent longer looking at the sex section of your link than the recipe section? Grin

LarryMcNue · 06/08/2013 21:46

I came to lurk but sex section you say?

InTheRedCorner · 06/08/2013 21:49

Yes Larry the 40 best positions were a lovely reminder of my pre children days Grin

LarryMcNue · 06/08/2013 21:53

Hmmm I only managed 4 or 5 then the children were made

InTheRedCorner · 06/08/2013 22:00

The bucket list was a bit Hmm and the top 69 is in real pictures...

I may have just wasted another 30 minutes on there! I'm so naive though shoos DD to bed and starts eying up DH

MrsPnut · 06/08/2013 22:05

Dd2 is a fussy eater so we mostly give her wraps (chicken or chicken goujons with sour cream and cheese)
Jacket potato with beans and cheese
Salmon with sweetcorn and a single boiled new potato (no skin)
Sausages with carrots, broccoli and mash
Chicken cooked in BBQ sauce stuffed in a pitta bread (can add salad to this)
Pasta bake with left over ham or chicken or chorizo and frozen mixed veg.
Paella type thing made with leftover chicken, chorizo, sliced peppers and frozen mixed veg.
Burgers with onion rings

I do make lots of other dishes, many of which she pushes around the plate and then declares that she doesn't like it. These ones though she eats some of, even if she picks put the veg.
