two more quick qu's from me

hi there all JUST started weaning and have two quick urgent questions.

  1. Have frozen some breast milk in a tray and forgot to tip it into a poly bag like I have been doing...in the freezer it has developed lots of round white spots on top of the cubes - looks like mould but can't be. Should I chuck it or is this normal? None of the stuff in bags seems to have this oddity.

  2. when making purees and freezing them in cubes, if you are going to add a little milk, should it be added BEFORE you freeze or after you defrost.

many thanks in advance

  1. Be tempted to chuck it. How much of it is there?
  1. I believe you can freeze with milk, but I'd add it after to be on the safe side. Could help defrost the cubes if you warm it too.

only three quarters of a tray - best be on the safe side hmm?

good idea - ta

Not sure about qu 1. but could it be frost bubbles? If it went straight into the freezer I don't think it would have come to harm (but if you have plenty then may be worth chucking).

As for qu 2. I would say it was ok either way. Most recipes I'm looking at with milk have it added when cooking the puree and then say you can freeze it afterwards. Also in the past I've added warm ebm or water to my purees once defrosted. HTH

I'd say the white bits are "frezer burn" which seems to happen when you freeze anything for a while that's unwrapped. I'm fairly certain I used milk like this with no ill effects.
