Healthy grazing ideas for teenagers

Looking for inspiration. DS, 14, has hit that fantastic growing and eating phase and is constantly hungry.

Now the school holidays are here, I'm looking for ways to fill the fridge with things he can grab and stuff in without resorting to cakes, biscuits, crisps and other crap.

He will now make his own pasta and toasties etc but the carnage in my kitchen makes me weep. (clearing up after himself is another work in progress)

I'm thinking things like frittata, falafels etc but running out of ideas.

Help!!!

DD1 would eat her way through at least a loaf of toast a day, if left to her own devices.

Oatcakes and cheese
Malt loaf
Hoummus and carrot sticks /pitta
My 2 make pizzas using pitta bread, red pesto and Basics mozzarella
Grapes
Yoghurts - natural yog with fruit, if he'd contemplate it (mine will v occasionally if the yog has a bit of vanilla extract in it)
Porridge
Cereal
Frozen edememe (sp?) beans zapped in the microwave, with soy sauce

Mine loves the trail mix from aldi (I think) nuts and seeds and dried fruit. He also adores any dips and things to dip in - preferably carby like breadsticks but will tolerate veg added. Cold sausages. salami. grapes, punnet of strawberries. Nuts.

Basically anything with mimimal efort for him that he can drag in front of the computer and munch!

Oooh cold sausages, he'd kill for those!

Thanks, off to Tesco AGAIN.

Oatcakes with ham or cheese.
Sandwiches pref with wholemeal bread.
Bananas
Eggs on brown toast

Summer Porridge - something like this. www.lifestrength.com/blog/2012/04/23/mango-coconut-overnight-oatmeal-yes-this-is-real-life/
Sits in the fridge for a day or two in jam jars, so DS can take one out, lid off, spoon in - voila! (Somehow the jam jar effect works very well!)

I wish DS ate more cereal - life would be much simpler and my kitchen much cleaner!

Those porridge pots look brilliant - but what on earth are chia seeds?

cq · 31/07/2013 17:08

Mmm agree, those porridge pots look great. For myself if not for the teenager!

Greek yoghurt and soft fruit added to the list. Good job I haven't made it to Tesco yet Smile

Its the healthy version with the chia seeds!! Can't remember what they do - omega 3 or fibre or... something.

Just bung approximate quantities of oats, yoghurt, milk and fruit together, bung on lid, swish around inside the jar and leave in the fridge overnight. I use the Bonne Maman jam jars as the top is quite wide.

You could sprinkle with nuts when they take the top off - bit more protein.
