URGENT summer pudding wedding anniversary advice!

Am nervously attempting to make summer pudding for the first time. We ate it at our wedding 14 years ago and it's a surprise for DH. I have already come to terms with the fact that it may all go wrong, but even before I've started I have a crisis. I discover I don't have a suitable pyrex pudding bowl (i am sure I used to), and so will use a mixing bowl.

I have various sizes but none that will fit a plate exactly on top....or if I use that one it will be enormous and I don't have enough fruit.

So can I weigh it down when I'be finished with a glass dish that is SMALLER than the bowl the pudding's in, and put a can on something in that to weigh it down.

Sorry am not being clear! Just need some hand holding and moral support.....

Thanks

It should work out OK - you may just find some of the liquid seeps up over the top of the plate - just get one as close to the sizde as poss so the sides get pushed as well.

Good luck and happy anniversary Smile

Thank you. I now think that my bread is not high quality enough, or stale enough, and I've read too many conflicting recipes and feel confused, but I've just got to feel the fear and do it anyway!

Yes to both questions - and bread should be fine. My mum (who makes the best summer pudding ever) uses cheap sliced white and a saucer slightly smaller than her bowl.

Make sure you hold onto any excess cooking juices to either drizzle over white bits on the out-turned pudding, or if you have enough, to reduce down to a lovely syrupy sauce. Mmm.
