What's good to buy in Aldi?

Heading to Aldi tomorrow to buy a windbreak (about a 20 mile round trip so not somewhere we would normally go) I know some people really rate some of their produce so just wondered what's good to buy?

OP posts:

Their part baked bread is the best I have had. Really yummy.

ILikeToClean · 03/07/2013 21:19

I have shopped there for the last 3 months and haven't found anything we didn't like as yet. Their bread, rolls, chocolate, pizzas, garlic bread and meats are all really good in particular but as I say, everything i have bought has been fine. There are posts on the credit crunch forum which mention what people recommend or dislike so check those out. HTH Smile

Fish.

Their frozen Basa fillets in a lemon and garlic crumb are delicious and only about £1.70 for 2 I think.

TempusFuckit · 03/07/2013 21:22

Thick cut marmalade. Washing up liquid. Pretzels (big ones from bakery section at shop entrance). Black Forest ham.

Avoid the kids' fromage frais.

I found this helpful yesterday.

ShatnersBassoon · 03/07/2013 21:35

Crema di limoncello. It's my tipple for the summer Smile

PiHigh · 03/07/2013 21:35

Part baked bread rolls
Ridge cheesecakes (small ones - 3 in a pack)
Balti curry sauce (with the spices on top)
Doughballs
The choc iced that are half choc covered and half wafer

It's a bad bad place for dieters!

PiHigh · 03/07/2013 21:36

toffee not ridge

mumofapirate · 03/07/2013 21:39

I highly recommend the garlic and rosmary bread in the fridge £1.79 ish in the fridge

ShatnersBassoon · 03/07/2013 21:40

so the deli section is lovely - great salami, chorizo, smoked cheese -and plain all good .. and so cheap! I also like the greek yoghurt which is 30% cheaper than same stuff in other supermarkets..

The baking section is good - nuts, dried fruits, flour, spices, butter less than a quid a pack..

Cereals also nice - I love their unsweetened muesli .. and their Dorset look alikey ones.

Fruit and veg - salad is good, avocados always ripe, fruit tends to have shorter shelf life but I see that as a good thing

LakeFlyPie · 03/07/2013 22:39

Pretty much everything except potatoes (not sure why but they're invariably terrible)

I love Aldi (but not their spuds)

just done a taste test, Pimms v Austins (Aldi version). DH preferred the Austins, and I liked both, so will definitely be buying the cheaper one in future!

we do most of our shopping in Aldi - £4.99 for a free range chicken, £2.19 for 15 free range eggs, £1 for 3 own brand magnum style icecreams

we like their deli meats and cheese, own brand cereal fine [my usually picky parents couldn't tell the difference], seeded bread is yummy, bread mixes good. Dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid, and clothes washing liquid are good.

fruit and veg can be a bit mixed - pick them over. Pasta and rice is good, regularly buy frozen pizza and fresh quiches for night when a very quick tea is needed

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 06/07/2013 19:46

Just a word of warning (sorry guys) the nappies are good yes BUT having previously used them with great success with dd1 I also tried to use them with dd2. They have definitely changed them in the past couple of years or so, they now smell very chemically and made dd very sore. Avoid if your baby has sensitive skin.

However the part bake seeded rolls are yummy
Jaffa cakes aren't bad
Chorizo is good
Washing up liquid

CakeExpectations · 06/07/2013 19:47

Thanks for this OP. We're supposed to be getting an Aldi this year so I'm diligently saving all the Aldi threads I see, to revisit for inspiration prior to the big day.

AIBU to be more than a little excited about it?

QuickQuickSloe · 06/07/2013 19:50

The sour cherry conserve is bloody lovely.

sharond101 · 06/07/2013 21:45

We had a bbq with the aberdeen Angus burgers tonight and had the burger relish and burger buns too - all got the thumbs up.
