I just read this on another thread. I keep flour in the rolled down bag. What's the problem with that then?

Don't do it ComeOVeneer, I wish I'd just never looked!

Best way to check is to put a little pile of flour on a saucer and smooth it out with the back of spoon. Leave for about 10 mins and then check. If the surface is rippled then you have adult mites. Bin it.

ComeOVeneer · 01/06/2006 20:17

Phew, 'tis fine. I shall however be investing in some airtight containers tomorrow.

SaintGeorge · 01/06/2006 20:19

anchovies - unless you have lots of loose packed dry products in the same cupboard, don't worry too much.

Take everything out of the cupboard. Wipe outsides of containers. Wash shelves with HOT water and dry very thoroughly before replacing stuff.

Buy fresh flour, keep in air tight container and use within 4-6 weeks.

Have done the suacer trick just to double check.

Hmmm that's probably the problem, my flour is at least 4-6 months old! Poor ds's cereal has been next to it for yonks as well Shock

If a cornflake gets out of the bowl and walks across the counter by itself, worry.

Otherwise just think of all those extra little protein pills you have (possibly) been feeding him and relax Smile

I wish I'd never asked... Grin

Don't feel up to checking the flour, yuk.

I only ever buy the smallest packet size so it's used up quite quickly, that's my consolation.

Lol at walking cornies! Ds would love to find a beasty in his cereal! Off to do some cleaning now!

after you've washed out your cupboards as SG suggested, i would hoover them too. thats what we had to do. basically, we had a bad infestation and did quite alot of searching on the internet as to the best way of dealing with them. all packet food is now in airtight containers in our kitchen.
