Apart from fruit!

DCs had to have fillings recently so am trying to think of east alternatives to all the rubbish I feed them they eat.

Want to avoid anything messy like dips.

These Multi-veg muffins went down a storm in our household. I created them for my nephew who isn't so keen on veggies.

These Rice crispy cakes are healthier snacks for those with a sweet tooth.

BaconAndAvocado · 25/06/2013 17:50

Wow drladybird they both look really nice, especially the veggie muffins, will definitely have a go at making those Smile

I love the look of the muffins. Definitely going to make those.

In fact I think I will be most of your recipes a go. Thanks drladybird.

Drladybird · 25/06/2013 19:45

Glad you like them ladies Smile. Let me know how you and your little ones get on with them.

JonesH · 27/06/2013 10:59

You can get snacks in the 'lighter choices' section of the supermarket, such as mini lemon cakes or carrot cakes that are healthy and fat free, literally each piece is just a small square, but still very tasty! Alternatively, special K do those special K bites, and I think they've just brought out a range of special K Crisps, however haven't tried them/unsure how they work. I've recently been buying these health bars to snack on, seen them in the supermarkets and boots and they taste great and keep you full for ages so I find I'm not constantly snacking!

CMP69 · 27/06/2013 17:46

Jones why would you want to give your DC low fat rubbish? The bars look delicious but not sure my DS would eat any of them even though he loves cereal bars.
I do tea breads, banana bread, Muffins, crumpets, veg sticks and dips. The recipes above sound great will give them a go Brew

snoworneahva · 27/06/2013 22:28

Raw veg, cheese, meat, eggs, nuts, yoghurt - keep away from low fat diet processed junk - it certainly isn't healthy - if you don't recognise an ingredient in a product, it ain't healthy - it's processed! Eat it as a treat but don't kid yourself that it's healthy.

Startail · 27/06/2013 22:32

Apples and strawberries, I know you said no fruit, but if dealing with DD2 that is it.

DD1 would eat nuts, seeds, crackers, pepper sticks and all the other things mentioned, but DD2 won't.

Startail · 27/06/2013 22:34

Well she will eat yoghurt, but if she has that as a snack she demands ice cream for pudding, so it doesn't really help.

(I should add DD2 is also the stick thin, stupidly sporty one, just sodding awkward).

snoworneahva · 27/06/2013 23:57

I'd be inclined to say no to any pudding demands....but that's a personal choice - I don't like my dcs expect

snoworneahva · 28/06/2013 00:01

Sorry!
I don't like my dc's expecting a pudding after every meal - we occassionally slip into it but really there's no need - if they think they are having pudding - they'll eat less of the main course.

Startail · 28/06/2013 00:12

DD is also 12 and perfectly capable of unlocking the garage and fetching Ice cream.

She also bribes DH for the key by getting him one too.

Failure to buy ice cream is a crime of biblical proportions.

Healthy eatting is all well and good, but when the troops are mutinous one picks ones battles.

BaconAndAvocado · 28/06/2013 10:30

The reason I said no fruit is because they already eat loads of fruit, but I guess I could just try some different types?

A trip to the local pick your own would be a great day out too!
