Where can I get baby pasta?

I used the tiny pasta stars a lot to introduce DS to pasta. Now that I'm trying to do the same for DD I can't find them anywhere. Searches of Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsburys have turned up nothing. Has anyone seen it anywhere or an equivalent please?

Organix used to do them but have stopped. Sainsburys and Tesco seem to have some small pasta shapes (in their mormal dried pasta range), but still double the size of the stars.

I had the Organix ones but DD hated them, she was much happier holding a spiral, you can also easily chop up tiny pieces out of spaghetti. The pasta shapes that were tiny were fiddy, when you only needed a tiny amount, a sod to cook and stuck to the pan. We only tried it once and opted for big pasta, chopped up as it was softer, cheaper and easier to chew!

Organix discontinued their range as far as I know. Can you get hold of soup pasta - in the normal dried range? That is normaly very tiny shapes.

TBH I just used normal pasta with DD as the shapes are bigger so easier to pick up with their hands - and if you cook it a while it gets very soft too, as kiwibird says.

I looked for Organix just last week and was told it was discontinued. Then I looked for soup pasta but its not that easy to find. My sister bought me a bag from her local Tescos but I agree that baby also likes to hold a big piece. I think you'll have to keep hunting the supermarkets or try a deli for the teeny pasta. I want to mix it with spinach etc which isn't so easy with big pieces. you could also try cous cous which is really tiny but is basically pasta too.

I used to buy them for my dd from Boots. This was 7 years ago and haven't started to give pasta to ds yet. You would prabably be better off looking in a larger boots store.

EmmaKB · 02/02/2004 10:58

Just had a thought. You could use ordinary pasta but blitz it in the food processor for a second before cooking it.

Pidge · 02/02/2004 11:31

A variant on EmmaKB's suggestion - I always just chopped whatever pasta I had cooked for me and dp. Spaghetti is really easy - just lay out the strands on a chopping board and you can slice off tiny pieces. When they get bigger some scissors applied to penne make groovy ring shapes for them. It's also easier than cooking up stuff separately.

I use the Tesco's 3 min pasta for dd, it's in the normal section like 150percent said. They have bows and sort of mini spaghetti. The bows are an ok size for little mouths and the spag I just mash up a bit with a spoon before I feed her.

Coddy · 03/02/2004 12:45

I researche d this too
and found they have stopped - I e mailed them to ask too to no a vail

Waitrose do expensive Peter Rabbit mini pasta

bundle · 03/02/2004 12:47

MaggieW just bought some from our local Italian deli, little tiny letters/numbers, I think. also got a bag of vermicelli-like short pieces from Safeway's, I think. delis are really good for this kind of thing because they're used in soups etc. where do you live?

CountessDracula · 03/02/2004 12:55

De Cecco do Farfalline.95 which are tiny pasta bows. Found them when dd stole a pack from our local italian deli without me noticing! They are really small and soft and good. You can prob buy online if you don't have a stockist near you. About £1 for a big pack (500g)

madgirl · 03/02/2004 12:58

Boots do it in the baby food bit

GenT · 03/02/2004 13:18

CountessDracula · 03/02/2004 13:36

Wouldn't want to be in your boots coddy

Sorry that was awful

Coddy · 03/02/2004 13:40

our boots is awfultoo!

Love the mini mode clothes though - have you tried them on dd?

Alys · 11/02/2004 14:19

Farleys do baby pasta - they are little hoops. I think some Tescos sell them. I found some little pasta at a farm shop and my mum has got me some from a local Italian deli.

Also, if you go to Spain they have little pasta!! I brought some back last year from holiday.

It seems soup pasta has become a thing of the past as I've looked everywhere and not foudn it in a supermarket.

donnie · 11/02/2004 14:50

have you seen the Peter Rabbit baby pasta in the baby ( nappies etc not food) section of waitrose? a bit pricey but v nice and organic too I think.
