Spreadable butter instead of block?

Hi all,

Could I substitute spreadable butter for solid block butter in baking? Keep forgetting to buy blocks but always have spreadable Lurpak in the fridge but know it has added oil in.

If I can do I have to reduce or increase amounts at all?

TIA!

I would. I'd even use a light margarine in place of part if I didn't have enough, and seems to work fine.

I've used it and its been fine. I tend to buy block butter a few packs at a time though as it has a decent date and much cheaper. I bake with willow as its 75p a block in Iceland

I think that it is probably fine for using in the recipe, but it is best not to use it for greasing your cake pan if it is made out of Anodised Aluminum. Some oils, particularly Olive Oil, go sticky at high temperatures and using a spreadable butter/marg could cause your cake to stick. Best to grease with hard (block) butter or margarine.
