it's just banana! nothing else, no sugar, no cream, no crap.

kids can have yummy icecream and it's just fruit

I just give my kids ice cream occasionally Grin. I don't see the point in healthy versions of treat food, it just creates an odd relationship with food imo. Far better have a good relationship with food and an understanding that foods like ice cream etc are not to be eaten every day but are fine sometimes as part of a healthy diet.

Plus I hate bananas Grin.

WitchOfEndor · 27/05/2013 10:04

Sounds interesting, just realised I don't have a blender!

SoftSheen · 27/05/2013 10:07

You can also make healthy 'ice-cream' lollies by mixing full fat yoghurt, some crushed berries (blueberries or raspberries are good) and a bit of honey, and then freezing in lolly moulds.

But I agree with Indith, the occasional 'proper' ice-cream is good too- my DD likes clotted cream strawberry...

Angielka · 27/05/2013 10:13

My DD1 is allergic to dairy so this is fab! Thanks unique Grin

UniqueAndAmazing · 27/05/2013 10:26

indith I see what you mean, but I like to gave ice cream in the evening and it seems mean to say to dd "you can't have it"

I hate bananas too Wink
anyway, the reason I posted it/looked for it in the first place is that we've cut out dairy for dd's eczema :) (glad it was useful to you too angielka :) )

witch you could wait for it to soften a bit and gammer it to death. Grin

My dcs love eating this with a bit of full fat yoghurt or double cream for breakfast, we often add other frozen fruits and cinnamon.

flanbase · 27/05/2013 10:58

thanks for the recipe I will try this

justkeeponsmiling · 27/05/2013 21:29

I have tried this and it is surprisingly nice - much better than I had expected it would be. I always keep some chopped bananas in the freezer now ready for an instant dessert.

UniqueAndAmazing · 29/05/2013 10:47

ooh, good, glad you've got a positive review :)

Thanks for this link unique, just tried it and it was really lovely. I added a small spoonful of green and blacks cocoa powder and we all really enjoyed it!

UniqueAndAmazing · 31/05/2013 14:20

It also works really well with 30ml almond milk and 1/2 tbsp maple syrup per banana added at the blending stage.

whimsicalname · 31/05/2013 19:46

Frozen strawberries and coconut milk is another good one.

kefybaby · 31/05/2013 20:16

A great idea and a good way to use up ripe bananas. Thanks, unique!

snoworneahva · 31/05/2013 23:19

Will try the added cocoa idea...nice!

MadMonkeys · 03/06/2013 21:11

I have a dairy free DD too, this will be fab, thanks!

cornypedicure · 03/06/2013 21:13

mmmm sounds gorgeous - I'm going to try this!

Angielka · 04/06/2013 15:40

unique had to post again and say I've finally tried it, and it's bloody gorgeous Grin added some mango so a bit sweeter and it tastes just like icecream! Thanks again.

UniqueAndAmazing · 04/06/2013 15:46

oh thank god it's nice!
Grin

i haven't even had the guts to give it a go yet (although we'll be going to the strawberry place soon, so I might give it a go with strawberries)
