for international evening

the plan is people bring food from around the world to share with others

I don't know what to do

I can choose any food type .. but at a loss

would prefer food to be eaten cold .. but can be reheated if necessary.. would prefer pickable food (some people do soups but too much hassle to serve / eat)

so it needs to be identifiable to a particular country (and not indian .. because we have the most amazing sikh parent who is just the most fabulous cook in the world)

pissaladiere you ninny!!! It's a provencale onion/tomato tart, with optional anchovies on top
will try and find you recipe online

If you're feeling really idle, how about Greek meze - hummous and tarama and those vine leaves things and tsatsiki. (Or Spanish tapas come to that - make a big tortilla, and some olives, and anchovies and so on)

Or Danish open sandwiches - rye bread, with smoked salmon, or nice meats, or egg mayo on them.

you can also spread a thin layer of tomato puree on top of the bread dough, and then put the onions on top. I wouldn't go too mad on the anchovies in case people don't like them.

Ah! As there are two of these threads I'd better post this twice ...

Mexican is nice, cheap and easy. Get either tacos, nachips or corn/flour tortillas and make the following fillings ...

Chilli minced beef
Refritos (pinto beans boiled then mashed and refried with tomoato, chilli, garlic and onion).
Chopped tomotoes
Soured cream
grated cheese (Manchego is good)
Guacamole (mushed avacado with chlli, tomatoes and a squeeze of lime
Salsa (in a jar)

chicken kebabs (can be eaten cold), marinade chicken in natural youghurt, garlic, olive oil, coriander, little curry powder, herbs, salt and pepper, or olive oil, herbs, lemons juice, garlic and wine vinegar, thread onto skewers with cherry toms, red onion, peppers, etc then grill.

morrocan chicken (chicken in a sauce of tomato, chick peas, onion, harissa paste, honey, almonds, apricots and some mint - served with cous cous. This also works well without chicken but with mushrooms/courgettes etc as a veggie dish.
